Training of team – introductory topics (ToT1)

The first training of team (ToT1) was carried out for the REAP technical consultants (TCs) from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The team is now ready to commence approaching potential client enterprises of REAP project and to start the project activities with interested enterprises

By bringing together REAP Technical Consultants (TCs) from Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan the project kicked off the in-person capacity building component. Twenty three (23) participants including facilitators, representing five project partner organisations spent six days becoming familiar with the Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) approach. The first ToT was held in Tashkent from 22nd to 27th April 2021. This ToT also helped the technical and project management teams from CCIU and NSAMB to interact with each other and develop a common understanding of the SCP improvement challenges faced by enterprises in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

Five days were spent in classroom with half day of factory visit on the last day followed by a wrap up session.  During the classroom sessions, topics such as introduction to SCP and resource efficiency, documentation related to the SCP implementation work of REAP, dealing with enterprises, consulting approach were covered. The training was designed to be inclusive and participatory with many different learning modes being used. The participants were provided a case study company to work with – and through the entire TOT were required to apply the inputs from facilitators in the context of their case study company. The participants also carried out a “virtual visit” to their case study company by analysing site photos that were provided as part of the case study!

In addition to the theoretical inputs from the facilitators, the participants had the opportunity to make presentations, practice preparing project reporting documents and also participate in role play.

During the on-site factory visits, the facilitators demonstrated to the TCs practical aspects of the topics that were covered in the classroom sessions. All the training material (in English as well as in Russian) is shared with the participants on the cloud based file storage.

Feedback from the TCs was collected and analysed. All the TCs reported a better understanding of the topic of SCP and high levels of satisfaction from the training.
